Hi

I just joined the forum and wanted to say hello to everyone. I have suffered from a variety of anxiety related disorders over the years and I know they can take a tremendous toll on a person's life. I have been "officially" diagnosed (among other things) with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Hypochondria, Panic Disorder, Depression, Phobias, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and have dealt with these conditions for the better part of ten years. Many of my family members are also sufferers to one degree or another. I take "benzos" and SSRI's but it still is'nt always easy.

Anyway, glad to be here and that I found this place!Smile

I find that doing a cleanse of your system is ideal when dealing with depression, you might think about a colon cleanse and maybe a liver Gallblader flush. Also, try looking into a krill oil as I have found that works really well! You will have to give the krill oil some time to integrate into your system, maybe 30 days, but I think that should help allot

Hi Room,
I am rather new to this forum also and I hope I have something to ad here.
I like the idea of a colon cleanse because what I have been seeing in the litrerature is that sometimes toxins from the environment are causing a lot of these types of problems. Of course the Gov. wont do anything about it because they are in cahoots with big phama. and the politicians are making billions too. I don't know what krill oil is and have never seen it though.
What I have been taking for several years now is an amino acid supplement.
It helps to replace the neurotransmitters that the brain needs and is all natural. It worked for me. email me at giftatticnet at yahoo.com for more info. put amino's in the subject line so I dont delete it as spam.
Thanks a million.

First all those things are related. Almost everyone experiences stress and happiness. The more stress, the more anxiety. The more happiness, the less anxiety. I read about this guy with depression that had been to 100 therapists. He was in a "loony bin" (his words) a few times and nothing helped. But he met a woman in a loony bin and has been married to her for 5 years and has not had much of a problem with depression.

There are things that can help it like diet and exercise especially yoga which creates a severe chemical imbalance in the brain. It floods your brain with a huge amount of feel good chemicals. Especially the toughest yoga to do-- Bikram's yoga. Bikram is a multi-millionaire from it.

I heard there is a book called Potatoes Not Prozac about the effect of of food on emotions. Also they tell smokers that smoking will shorten your life. Well they are somewhat depressed anyway so that means less years of suffering. Smoking depresses you. The nicotine is a stimulant but the carbon monoxide numbs your brain like a depressant which relaxes them. The original reason for anti-depressants were to treat people on tranquilizers since it depressed them.

The USDA (U.S. Dept of Agriculture) has been working very hard to help you. They have testing phytochemicals in plants to find the ones that are antidepressants and antianxiety. Then they went to work testing thousands of plants and finding out exactly how much of these chemicals were in each of these plants. Of course many of these plants had none of them. So that is where some of your tax dollars have gone. A site at tells about common foods like apples and grapes that have a lot of these chemicals. Smile

This is such a great website for coming forward with depression -- so much good information and help.

Here is a link to a great website chalked full of information as well as advice... Best of luck to overcoming this wretched condition.

Other tips for depression sufferers:

* Try blue light therapy. It is a very gentle method for resetting the body’s circadian rhythms and re-establishing natural patterns of hormone production and sleep/wake cycles. Circadian Rhythm Disorder and Seasonal Affective Disorder both produce depression.
* Set very specific sleep and wake times, and stick with them until your sleep patterns stabilize. Studies have shown that stabilizing sleep patterns has a positive effect on eliminating depression.
* Step outside and enjoy the sun. Exposure to sunlight can help balance the body’s circadian rhythms.
* Seek spiritual outlets. A negative outlook on life devoid of spirituality can affect recovery from depression.
* Socialize with other people. Isolation and loneliness can lead to depression.
* Try meditation or guided imagery to relax your mind.
* If you have “silver” dental fillings, get an evaluation from a mercury-free dentist who specializes in the safe removal of mercury amalgam fillings. Mercury in the body causes wide-ranging damage and can be a cause of depression. Find a mercury-free dentist in your area now!

Also, I HATE IT when people think there is a magic pill that a doc can prescribe to cure depression -- combatting depression takes life-changing behavioral steps, dietary changes, and overall mind and body wellness approach.
