I was not sure which forum to post this one, and i know there have been earlier posts on this topic.
I have been trying to help my brother in law, who has been suffering with restless leg syndrome, for over a year now. It mostly effects his legs about one hour after going to bed. A feeling of having to move the legs to get relief, which keeps him, and his wife awake for hours.
I have recommended he trys Magnesium, iron and folic acid, but just trying one for three months, to see which helps.
The Magnesium did not help, nore did the folic acid. However there was a slight improvement after taking iron. I asked him to try hot and cold water on the legs, just before going to bed, but i think that drew attention to the problem, and seemed to make it worse.
I am sure what he eats, can effect rls. It would seem that eating chicken makes it worse, as does chocolate.
Does anyone know of any links that may be useful. |

It may be worth pursuing the iron link if that appears to have helped. It may be helpful to check the body’s levels of iron to make sure that the amount is sufficient; ferritin levels are generally a good indicator in this area. Many inorganic forms of iron are not well absorbed and may not provide results as good as an organic source. Checking ferritin levels is also useful as it can indicate an iron storage disorder in which the iron is not utilized properly and is stored instead. It may also be useful to try supplementing with Magnesium Orotate and Calcium Orotate in addition to the other things that you are trying. It is important to increase the intracellular magnesium content which could take some time and organic sources. Hot Epsom Salt baths a couple hours prior to bed may also relax the body a offer some addition magnesium. If warm water aggravated the condition then this may not be appropriate in his case. I would also investigate the new RestQuiet Sleep patches. Of course, any food that causes the problem to worsen should be avoided.
