Hi All,

new to the board, and here for a good purpose. I currently run my own message board and site, but no one there has the information I'm needing to get.

I'm currently working out 6 days a week, doing both weights and cardio, and am on the way to losing a lot of fat. I've been wanting to do a colon cleanse for quite a while, however, I have some questions regarding my fat loss and my workout schedule, as well as protein intake.

Question 1: If I go on a standard colon cleanse, should I keep doing cardio and resistance training during the 10 day cycle? I need to know if I will still have the energy to do this while cleansing, as my workouts are currently cardio in the mornings, and weights in the late afternoon/evenings.

Question 2: If I continue to workout during this time, is it advisable to stop supplementing with my whey isolate protein during this time? I'm very much into the nutritional aspect of bodybuilding, and I know that I cannot reach my goals and maintain muscle mass with no protein intake. To maintain my current lean mass I need about 200 grams of protein per day. I can get this from whey isolate, which is a very high quality one.

Question 3: Does anyone know any "make it at home" recipes for the colon cleanse? I'll be taking a look through the forum to find it, but if anyone knows, please feel free to post it up here.

I'll be checking back frequently, and I look forward to anyone who has some input on my questions.

Matt Very Happy

Hi Matt,
A colon cleanse is a great way to support your body for overall health and great for any weight loss program! Regarding your questions, let’s look at each one in turn:
1. You can continue to exercise; although your energy levels can vary. This is really an individual response. Many people do experience a “healing crisis’ as a result of detoxification. This can cause fatigue, headaches, muscle/joint pain, and other symptoms in some people. However, this is generally very short-term and your energy level will probably be better after going through it. Keep in mind that not everyone experiences this; some people simply feel better, lighter, and more energetic. I would go according to your energy levels and mood and simply pay attention to the signals that your body provides for you.
2. Many people do not alter their diets while performing a colon cleanse. However, a good rule of thumb is to consume primarily fresh and organic foods. Fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and meat can all be a part of a healthy diet provided that they are without hormones, pesticides, herbicides, and many of the other toxins that we regularly find in food. Whey protein isolate can be very healthy provided that it does not include artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, and that a pure source was use for the raw materials. Oxygen-based colon cleansers tend to work for people that consume many different types of diets.
3. Oxygen-based colon cleansers are the best for long-term and more complete cleansing. The processes required to stabilize the oxygen cannot be duplicated at home and shouldn’t be attempted. Oxy-Powder has recently shown itself as the most consistent oxygen-releasing product on the market, followed by Homozon. For more information, look at the following link: www.oxypowder.com/laboratory-test.php.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I finally figured out what cleanse I am going to do, and I am going with the following.

The Sambu Elderberry Cleanse (10 day juice fast)

Ingedients are as follows:
Elderberry Concentrate
Wild Grown Elderberry
Birch Juniper Extract
Floralax (fiber)
Uratonic Tea
Paradise Tea
Epresat Multivitamin

I'll be starting it friday, and I'll be posting up a link to my log once I do for others interested in doing the same.

I've decided that I'm going to stick with the fast for as long as I can, and will not be adding to the diet at all. I'm going to go by the book.

Instead of my standard 40 minutes of moderate to high intensity cardio in the mornings, I'll be doing 30 minutes of light to moderate cardio, depending on energy levels and lightheadedness.

As soon as I get my thread started for the cleanse, I'll post it up here so any one currently interested in it, as well as anyone who may reference this in the future can check it out.

Matt

Matt,

Don't get too caught up in this colon cleansing thing. There are rumors going around that the typical human colon is clogged up with crud and that you'll feel like a new person if you can just get rid of all the crud. These herbs may help to purify your body in general and make you feel better. Thus, making you think that your colon has been rejuvenated. But as far as performing a miracle on your colon? It ain't gonna happen. My doctor concurs that the typical human colon is NOT coated with crud as we're led to believe by the people who are trying to SELL their products to us.

Hmm...Well, I've done it already.

And from a scientific standpoint is where I did this experiment. Do I feel a lot better? Yes. Has it helped me at all? Yes. Do I trust your doctor, or doctors in general? No, why would I. A doctor spends 20 hours on natural medicine in their 7 years of college, and I have not met many doctors who know anything about the extesnive supplementation I go through for my training.

Do I trust people trying to sell me something? No. But, I did pick the lesser of 2 evils. I could take a drug thats not going to do a thing for me, or I could do a lot of research and do something that has been proven to work for 1500 years.

You make your choices, I'll make mine. 50 years from now I'll be the living proof that I made the better choice.

Matt

Natural Way of Cleansing your Colon

The natural way of colon cleansing involves a cleansing diet of some herbs that are known to kill parasites and worms, also included are digestive enzymes, probiotics, herbs that stimulate the liver, gallbladder and intestines, psyllium husk or seeds, cascara sagrada or flax seeds, or slippery elm and many more.

Herbs are good in intestinal cleansing since they get rid of pounds of foul smelling food debris that have been stocked inside the colon. The most commonly used herb is psyllium, a natural, water-soluble, gel-reducing fiber that is extracted from the husks of blond psyllium seeds.
