Organic Frankincense
Nature gives us simple solutions for whatever needs may arise, and frankincense is no exception. Frankincense is the aromatic resin that is tapped from trees of the Boswellia family. There are several grades of frankincense measured by evaluating the color, aroma, age and purity. The grades of frankincense are affected by climate and soil grade.
Frankincense has a long history of distinguished and varied uses, some of which may surprise you.
Some Uses for Frankincense:
- Aromatic therapy - its relaxing, soothing scent encourages slow deep breathing, which helps to relieve anxiety and stress.
- Medicinal applications - it was used as a key ingredient in the embalming of bodies. And, in its purest form, it's edible and that form is added into medicines that aid in the relief of bronchitis, bacterial and fungal infections and more.
- Deodorizer for homes - its aroma, light and fruity on top of the resin's woodsy scent, makes it a nice indoor air freshener.
- Insecticides - the steam was used to fumigate wheat stores in silos, in ancient times. Arabians burned frankincense resin to repel sand flies and mosquitoes.
- Making kohl for eyeliner - the kohl is ground from the charred frankincense resin.
- Religious ceremonies - the burned incense are believed to enhance spiritual practices, heighten meditation, prayer and consciousness
Frankincense Uses You May Not Know About:
- Fishing - the bark was placed in water to attract the fish into the fishermen's nets.
- Acoustic improvement - the effects were noticed and recorded when frankincense was sprayed indoors.
- Special effects - frankincense is used the film industry to produce smoke.
This list of frankincense uses is by no means exhaustive. We just wanted to give you an idea of how useful it is. The properties of frankincense are such that it lends itself to external skin care as well.
Other suggested uses include:
- Try mixing frankincense into massage oil next time. Or, add it to your bathwater for an emotionally and physically soothing experience.
- You may want to add it to lotion or base cream to rejuvenate your skin while working to reduce oily skin.
